Only one tooth ??

Bicycle Training Someone on SBL asked what is the difference between a 12-26 and a 12-27 cassette.
Of course, it is one tooth. Or,
1/26, or 3.85% more gear reduction.
Not a lot.
Not nearly as significant as say a 24 to a 27, which is easier math...
3/24, or 1/8 which is 12.5%, or appox. 4.2%/tooth for each additional cog on the sprocket.

What might be a more useful thing to look at is how well each gear is spaced, meaning what is the % change between each gear. Which is easy to do in a spreadsheet like Excel or OpenOffice (which is free from sun.com).
For example, here is a 12-27.....
